She also said it in response to Steve's flirting attempts. It was totally different. It was not a main arc, it was natural and she didn't make a big deal out of it.
Idk why people don't get it that this stuff has just no place in big heroic stories.
It's not hatred, it's not anti gay but in a story where people fight evil and are real heroes it just doesn't fit to focus too much on someone being insecure about his sexuality.
I am sorry but it's just not big enough and it's not heroism, because heroism involves AT LEAST doing something for other people.
And not even that, in such stories people risk their lifes, save other people constantly and so on.
Being insecure about sexuality and make it a main arc just has no real room in such stories.
