What do you guys think our biggest positional needs are for the remainder of the window? Feel we're sorted in the back but the depth up front worries me a bit..
I really think our back 4 should be a model for the rest of the team. It's the only part of the team that looks completely set other than LW.
We've got top quality starters, backups and third choice players all across it, along with youth graduates, experienced players and homegrown players.
For the two CB roles we have Silva, Fofana, Badiashile, Chalobah and Colwill, all of whom have game time in the PL, 4 have European experience and two are homegrown so free up space for other players in the squad.
Contrast that with midfield where we have Enzo and Gallagher (if you count him, he's hardly a pivot player) for 2 roles, backed up by Santos and Casadei who have no playing time in the top 7 leagues, Casadei has 6 months in the Championship and Santos has 6 months in Brazil's 1st league. Even with Caicedo we'd only have 2 (I don't count Gallagher) midfielders that are starting quality
I think it's the same for most of the rest of the team tbh.
In order of importance:
Starting CM
Starting GK
Starting ST
Backup CM x2?
Backup AM
Backup RW
But, though they're ordered in importance, they're all needed if we want to seriously challenge for anything. If we don't get them all or the majority of them, I expect to only be challenging for 7th
No way GK is above a starting striker and a starting DM and a starting AM and a starting RW.
We don't need to sign 7 players
We need 4 I think.
2 CMs, a forward that could potentially play RW/striker and a goalkeeper(although kepa for another season ain't the worst thing having to play betinelli if he's injured is a massive problem)
I'm not too worried about a top Striker if we sort out a creativity problem. We had no striker with hazard at times and we still did relatively well.
I don't like Kepa, but realistically if we don't sign a replacement for him it's not the end of the world this summer.
I'd honestly say 3 players and we're fine.
Caicedo, Lavia and honestly Dybala would be interesting and I think our squad would be in good shape. We'll have to wait and see though as there's a long time left in the window.
Yeah that would put us in good shape for the window. Other stuff can be sorted in Jan or next summer assuming better options are available.
Let's see if we can get them done, sooner the better.
A midfielder is imperative (possibly two depending on who stays and who goes out on loan)
A keeper to compete with Kepa
RW to compete with Madueke, but would be ideal if we got someone who could play across the 3 in a 4231
Possibly a striker? But I'm not sure if Jackson will play the number 9 role. Plus we've got Broja.
Starting DM.
Starting GK.
Another winger who can provide competition.
Keeper, striker and 2 midfielders are a none negotiable.
Dybala for depth is also a key signings otherwise we'll likely see Gallagher as our Nkunku backup and no one wants that.
