those temps are fine, don't worry

anything under 85-90°C with a synthetic load shouldn't raise any worries at all - and you're not even hitting 80, so that's totally fine

Otherwise, just make sure that front/bottom fams are intake and top/back are exhaust fans

Well it hits 79 regularly, doing, essentially nothing (like 10% CPU usage peak).

and what temps are you getting under load?

i thought those temps were referring to under load

80°C while idle, then something is definitely some wrong with how the cooler is seated ot something similar

Yeah exactly. I’m afraid to do anything on it haha so it’s not under load. All I’m doing now is running Plex and backing up my hard drives to the cloud.

don't worry, CPUs (and other components) are designed to clock down when they get too hot, they will just run slower

and if they get WAY too hot for whatever reason (like running a CPU without any cooler at all), the PC will just turn off - they don't destroy themselves

Yeah I think I’m going to take a picture of the cooler once I take it off so I can show what the bottom looks like. It’s the first cooler I’ve installed myself but imo it’s really not smooth on the bottom.
