They want better testing numbers for the PU, then hear me out...AC should be free to play 24/7, add in some cosmetic micro-transactions and progression like COD or BF. Everyone that has a pledge in SC automatically gets the premium battlepasses etc.
It'll give them a new revenue stream, entice more people into the game and possibly pledge for SQ42 and the PU, give them a larger testing pool and capture another market of people that may not want the slower start of the PU and just want a fun combat experience.
This might be a step in that direction, to be fair. It has to be fit for purpose before going free, so this could be that clean up.
With how janky the AC gameplay for fps is, I would avoid monetizing the experience. I agree that AC should require only an account and be f2p to get more testing data (as long as that is feasible with server cost etc. I have no clue what this stuff costs).
But my problem with adding micro-transactions is more that you will create an expectation of polish from AC that I just doubt they can achieve at the moment. F2p this is not so much of an issue because non-backers might laugh at AC netcode but hey it was free. You charge for a battlepass you just can't deliver such a janky mess.
I mean we need to wait till 3.20 but so far it looks more like they did a great job with UI and UX improvements and threw in some great new features. They said little about how smooth things will run. Or did I miss that?
Oh no that's totally valid reasoning, it definitely needs to be better for Star Marine at least, AC is pretty reasonable, we'll see how things like the fleet battle go though. But being unconstrained from the PU server tech and persistence, I would hope it's not that big of a mission to get it working a lot better, and if it is, then we have a much bigger problem on our hands if they can't get a simple FPS shooter working well.
They are working on the net code atm (source: the last Monthly report). The goal is to get the arena commander servers up to 60hz instead of 30hz. That alone would resolve many problems. Of course the net code itself has to be pretty good but we'll see.
oh really I mean that would be great. I would love to be able to just jump into some decent SC action.
This is an awesome idea
