I know I’m not in Canada but, You know what you’re worth and stick to it. If they scoff at the price that’s the customer you definitely don’t want because it will only be issues moving forward. I charge per the entire job myself but it works out to a minimum of $50/hr and average around $80/hr usd.
This is tough for people who are in need of customers though. You can’t go months without work just because you want to turn your nose up at every less-than-desirable deal.
I do this occasionally, usually only in the slower months if I need work. But I'm sticking to 60 in general and not feeling bad about it. A big thing is a lot of people don't understand how much painting work is worth these days. Educating clients about this can help. I don't let it interfere with how much I feel I'm worth. I've been focusing on producing a nice professional looking brand, improving my online presence, getting an attractive website put up, good SEO, and lots of door to door. All together, I plan to have excess work opportunities, then I'll be able to be choosier.
Very true. Sometimes you need to take that “hit” job for the sake of living. But if you continue to do it all the time you will bring down your worth of yourself and will probably never get back out of that funk.
