As a fellow Indian, If you are soo obsessed with culture and traditions please do it privately in your property and back home! You are in a different country please adapt to the culture which is here or atleast stop doing this out in public!!
Stop bringing the hate to in whole!!
Very true my husband’s parents came from Kerala in the 1960s to Kentville Nova Scotia, one of the first few South Asian families there. They were eager to assimilate, be Canadian and join local community associations etc and became very well liked and respected. At both of their funerals we had so many community members come to say what wonderful hosts and neighbours they were. The only times I saw my MIL wear a Sari was when hosting dinner parties in their home, always respectful and never with music blasting that it’s heard from blocks away. Everyone has the right to celebrate their culture/heritage, but it must be done with respect and never at the expense of the peace of others or the environment
Not South Asian, but my experience is similar! We came in the mid 1970s and were one of the only Black families in our area. We were definitely the only Portuguese speaking ones!
We took a lot of newcomer classes and got involved in the community around us. We never spoke Portugese outside of the house, or in mixed company -- my Mum was so strict about it and said it rude! We kept our culture and politics to ourselves. We were always happy to share if others asked, but mostly we just went to our language schools on weekends, had our celebrations there, at our clubs or at home. i don't feel any less Carib for that!
