this...is not good.
All those venue ads you hate? Everyone there uses Mare, to the point console players often felt a bit excluded since we couldn't see the characters they saw. But every venue had a syncshell, every single one.
This will probably destroy venue culture as well as a lot of player's reason to play the game, leading to significant unsubs or just less interaction with the game overall.
not sure how harsh damage is overall, there will be loyal players but Dynamis might get even more hammered as it was becoming an alternate venue hub.
Seems good to me
Maybe without the venue crowd padding sub count, SQEX will see how bad things are for their actual video game /copium
but they can't draw those players back, mare was kind of massively expanding character customization. plug ins in general actually have been shoring up weaknesses in the game, but i dont think SE can redo Mare like they could adapt others.
like what can they do in compensation, make more savage raids? lol
They can start by making the jobs more fun
If the game cannot survive without gooners, it doesn't deserve to survive
Preach. If the game isn't a game and you have to practice a bit to get better idk. If it has any sort of combat growth, including player growth should be involved... And that requires having some way to experience the fights. As it is most jobs interact with a fight the same way as watching a yt video of the fight. Aka nothing meaningful or special.
I don't think it's very likely, but it's possible that if the RP/Venue/G-poser crowd is large enough, CBU3 could likely have some inaccurate impressions about the game's performance in certain regards depending on these crowds' engagement with the game.
It's a really nebulous topic though and we can only really speculate things like:
They likely have internal statistics regarding these topics that we'll never see so we can't know how robust or accurate they are. At the end of the day, my initial comment was mostly snark. I really do wish Mare users well, and hope they aren't so negatively affected by this that they can't enjoy the game anymore.
As someone who has been in many, many MMORP communities throughout the twenty+ years I've been playing them, I can answer this with certainty.
RPers are often the second people in PF to get the new glams, hairstyles, and fashion accessories right behind the hardcore raiders (there's also decent crossover), but unlike the hardcore raiders who leave once they've exhausted their content for the patch, RPers stay and make their own content.
They are more likely to dump money on cosmetics because cosmetics are half the point. Yes, you can use Glamourer to ape the items, but people know that people without Mare couldn't see the items if you weren't actually wearing it, so you'd acquire the paid items anyway.
I also know that when you chase away your RP community, your MMO is in a lot of trouble.
When content dries up, when games go into maintenance mode, when the servers are ten minutes from shutdown, the only constant is that your RPers are the ones still there. Chase them off and you lose a ton of easy, secure, and stable income.
The good venues will adapt and overcome this challenge
Wont matter when the people won't show up. Nothing was stopping them from running non-synchshell venues as it was if pure RP or social was a draw for people.
it might shrink a lot, and it might be hard for a lot of venue owners to want to go to text only. idk i need to ask ppl in game. imma vanilla console player but it was big.

Less ERP’ers is always a good thing.
