The mod apocalypse has come. o7 I've quit since completing 7.0 but wow.
I'm worried Penumbra will be next. In FFXIV's current state...lol. Absolutely wild decision. Japanese devs man.

I don't use mods but I doubt it. My guess is that Mare's only a problem in that it's kind of visible in game because of all of the Adventure Plates that have it. I know that got me asking why people kept putting it in their descriptions.
With mods being so dont ask-dont tell, it was oddly prevalent in game. Especially if you wander into any rp space. I hate that people are losing such a beloved tool, but hard to not feel like they flew too close to the sun.
Yeah. I'm not against any mods that aren't cheating but people need to be smart about it. An open secret is no secret at all.
sadly community is full of babies and morons. ACT was the same. yoshi p just said "hey we can't/won't do much as long as you keep it private" and the response was that sexpest BLM sfia streaming on twitch in the FFXIV directory with his entire screen being a ACT overlay. people here don't know how to not do the absolute stupidest thing possible at any given time.
I mean some more conscious modders go around telling people ask don't tell but the reality is that most modders want to flaunt it. That's why mare exists in the first place right? So you can show your carefully crafted goth mommy waifu to the world.
Penumbra is purely individual client side so I think there’s some leeway…at least for now

Nah I hear you. I don't use Mare but I do use Penumbra for some hair and face mods (eyebrows for my poor Highlander). I'm gonna be even less motivated for the typical grinds without em.
Yeah, that's pretty much the main difference between mare and any other mod: mare interacts with others and isn't strictly client-side
I doubt this was a decision taken by CBU3 and more likely it was Squeenix legal.
Also man, what a choice to do this the day after WoW releases a GAS trailer for the next xpack. That and the housing for all...WoW's gonna claw me back for the 10th time.

I haven't absorbed any of the community's thoughts on it and thought it was gas all on my own. The belves and Xal herself looked amazing imo

I played a bit of Dragonflight, haven't touched this xpack, but I thought it was cool. It hyped me up, I'm an elf simp. shrug!

It looked great except for Liadrin, her jawline was way too wide/defined when belves usually have pretty round and slim faces (just look at her updated model in the gameplay trailer), it literally looks like she got a bunch of botox injections or something.
Really happy they're remodeling/updating quel'thalas though, its been in a weird time bubble since cata.
Fair. Hard to tell from the belves' outdated models now what they'd even look like rendered properly
The general community thoughts seem to be that the art quality of the cinematic was ass, with elves lookin like they were made out of plastic. Compared to the TWW cinematic with super realistic anduin and thrall... yeesh
Midnight is really shaping up to be following in FF’s footsteps—same formulaic dungeons/raids/delves + one casual-focused, non-combat feature and a single spec of a class is even worse than endwalker in terms of adding fresh gameplay design. Not surprising seeing as they’ve pretty much spent the last two expansions copying FF—fast travel that trivializes the overworld in the form of dragonriding, follower dungeons/trusts, delves/variant dungeons (although they gave savage bis-equivalent as a reward so people love them), single-button rotation (functionally equivalent to ff class design) etc etc

also good luck getting something like Mare running on WoW without instantly getting shut down
if the RP community needs a new similar playground, WoW is 1000% not going to be a viable alternative
That's not the point. The point is that if S-E will be an obstacle to this, then why not pick the game that is more fully functional? You won't have big anime bazongas in either of them, but at least WoW lets you float furniture without the help of a tool that is just as vulnerable as Mare is.
or pick a good game to socialize in instead? and one that actually lets you use mods like Mare?

the notice almost certainly went out weeks ago at the very least. Notice how they said they reviewed options and talked to council. That takes a while
+the possible months it must've taken to investigate and draft it up by SE itself. Today is simply the day the Mare devs announced that they're actually gonna listen to it and stop the plugin development
Might have come around a similar time they hit that stalking plugin. Since they both do stuff with user IDs, it's not too much of a stretch I think.
