Back in the day before the chess boom he used to commentate often and nowadays too he pops in sometimes usually in the BIG event to commentate. I would definitely like him to do this a lot more.

I think he has some good banter with Hess and Danya and he keeps a good flow in the broadcast. Commentary pairs almost always has a great analyst and someone with charisma who ask questions that the audience might also have and keeps a good flow. This is the case in almost all sport and esport.
I agree, he's good flow/chemistry with the other commentators and carrys the commentary well. It allows Hess and Danya to go into deep-dives for different lines and do the heavy lifting with technical analysis.
There's a distinction between color commentators and analysts. He's there to coordinate the others and fill space while Danya and Hess can think through what they want to say.
This is a big part of it. Often you'll hear that the commentators find lines over the break. This implies that there's more to talk about if they could just be given a break to stop talking and have another look at the game.
Chief Chess Officer is busy promoting the 'green pawn'.
He is the color commentator.

Didn't you listen? He's the expert on blunders, he finds the ways the GMs may mess up their wins that Hess/Dayna can't, he said so himself.
Because all GMS would just not be entertaining. The GMS are the ones that go for very obscure Deep lines and are just totally nerding out whilst Rensh levels it out. He did a great Job yesterday it was actually fun to watch the games even tho it was like 5 hours.
I like Danny
He's chess.com "chief chess officer", a VP of sorts.
cco is csuite which answers to ceo and board, not vp which answers to csuite
Bro what are you on about he and Hess are the commentators for most things
Who cares who's commentating atp?
