Hey there redditors,
As Reddit has grown, so has the complexity of the preferences we provide to me...

/r/apolloapp if you are on iOS
Damn fine app
I was worried about moving to ios and Apollo was the best download and the easiest 5 bucks.
Is it $5/month or one $5 payment only?
/r/getnarwhal
Narwhal was the first premiere-quality iOS Reddit app but somehow Apollo appeared out of nowhere and blew it out of the water in popularity. It was kind of weird how it happened. You don’t have to pay anything to Narwhal. There are small ads at the bottom that you can pay to remove but they’re nowhere near on the level of Reddit ads, you’ll never see Reddit ads.
I used Narwhal for a while before switching to Apollo. I don't really have an specific reasons why, but Apollo is just nicer.
Also you need a really big caveat there: the first after the death of Alien Blue
Yeah it’s just not really worth mentioning a dead app that is no longer available because that benefits no one especially after all these years
What do you think about Comet? I downloaded it and it seems fine. It’s also free but I donated 2 bucks to the dev.
Never heard of it.
$1 one time payment for pro and $25 payment for ultra, quickest payment ever
It's free, but to get the ability to submit stuff and other features is 5 one time.
Why TF have I been using the official app for 4 years..
Any Android options?
'RIF is Fun'. It used to be called Reddit is fun, but copywrite stuff.
Seconding RIF
After like 5 years I paid the 3 bucks for double plus gold platinum version or whatever it's called -- totally worth it. Fantastic app.
The problem I have with that (and other third-party apps) is this: I use reddit several times a day in sessions of varying length. When I load in later in the day, I'm seeing lots of repeat posts that I'd already seen earlier in the day. The official app is really good about delivering fresh content each time I refresh. Do you know of a solution? Some setting with the cache that I'm missing?
Make sure you're using "Best" sort. RiF uses the same API as the official app, so there shouldn't be any differences.
Another option is to not refresh RiF, just keep scrolling.
Hide posts you've already seen.
Also using RiF, and yeah, "Best" is the secret. I mostly use Hot anyway, but the Best feed is the same on RiF as the official app's feed.
I like Rif but it objectively kinda sucks. Notifications don't appeared unless you refresh them manually, chat messages are completely unsupported, and long text posts with lots of links crash the app 100% of the time, so you can't view them.
I don't think chat is available for the API for third party apps, but I could be remembering something else that wasn't available around the same time as its implementation. Reddit notifications don't appear on desktop without refreshing either, so that behavior on mobile feels normal. Haven't run into the crash issue, I'd say put a report in for that one.
Also downloading gifs/mp4s/webms gives a corrupted file. All the videos I thought I'd saved aren't actually there.
The thing about the crash issue is that it happens 100% if the time I try to load a long post.

Are you okay, buddy?
I've used Sync for years and like it a lot.
Boost for Reddit
Sync all the way!
Play store
r/redditsync
r/BoostForReddit
Slide for Reddit is pretty good.
Also its open source, so extra points for privacy
I like Relay for Reddit, but it's just a personal preference since I've had it forever.
Boost, Sync, RIF...
Infinity. Absolute best Reddit client I've tried. It's on F-Droid as well, so the source code is available.
That looks really good, I might switch from boost now.
RedReader is free and open source
r/infinity_for_reddit
i use Boost
Try out 'Infinity', it is a very pleasant and sleek Reddit frontend app and it can be downloaded from the F-Droid store. If you are a bit concerned about privacy, then F-Droid can be of use to yourself.
r/BoostForReddit
Boost is a nice option
Boost
Slide is great & it's open src. It's on adnroid & ios.
I use Boost
Boost is far and away the best
No one ever mentions Now for Reddit in these threads, but it's by far my favorite.
BaconReader. There is no substitute.
Relay for Reddit is my favorite. Been using it for years
I personally use Slide.
Sync
Baconreader
Slide
Personally I use Boost
/r/RedReader. It's open source too.
Boost for reddit
r/boostforreddit
Infinity is a good option, very customizable. It's FOSS (open source) as well, available on F-Droid.
BaconReader and Infinity.
This app improved my mobile Reddit experience ten fold
Slide is nicer imo, and it's open src. It's on android & ios.
Open source is good, but Material Design on iOS is pretty bleh. Apollo keeps with Apple's styling.
r/BoostForReddit on Android is good
I’m worried for the day Reddit clamps down on third party apps
Is that the app where I have to have a monthly app subscription to use basic features like posting? Ehhhh... no thanks. I’m heading to Comet.
No, it's about $5 one time for extra things like multiple accounts but it's free to use and offers complete functionality. Maybe do research before writing something off. Have fun with whatever Comet is.
It doesn’t offer complete functionality. You absolutely cannot post to a sub without paying for it. You’re right, it’s not a monthly subscription to post, I misread their app, but some features are locked behind a subscription and some very, very basic “features” like literally posting, are a paid functionality. That might be okay for you, but it’s not for me.
Bro the entire internet is facing this choice.
Apollo is run by a single guy. He develops it on his own, as a full time job. If you think it’s ridiculous for him to charge, you’re part of the reason that Reddit sells its soul to advertise Camrys and testicle shavers.
Either users pay for the product or they become the product. You’re free to keep using the free Reddit app, but don’t be surprised anytime you’re tracked on the web.
For anyone with privacy and security in mind, get used to paying for services and, even better, using free and open source software. The monetization model we have now sucks major dick.
I wiped my profile with https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite
Reddit has shown they don't care what it's users want or think, so I am removing all of the free content I have provided to them over the years. /u/spez has chosen to lie every step of the way and I will no longer be using Reddit. Please consider how much Reddit hopes to make off of your thoughts/ideas/words while giving you nothing in return.
Its a one time purchase, but hes right about posting, its a premium feature.
Nope.
