Can I ask why it is on by default rather than being opt-in? A lot of users will miss this being added and will not like being tracked without being informed up front that this is the case.
EDIT: Spelling
That's the point of every opt-out option.
The quintessential example of the impact of opt in vs opt out is on organ donors

Because who in their right minds would opt in to a tracking feature?
The onlyfans accounts?
If I had lots of conversations with people who didn't know when I was on. This is a throwaway account, so I don't care if people know I'm on.
Literally every reddit user with an account, technically. That's what it's always been; they're just piling more on top.
The bigger problem is that you're using New Reddit.
I’ve often wondered the percentage of people who use the new interface. I much prefer the older one.
Probably every user that signed on since new reddit was introduced and a bunch who switched. IIRC subreddit mods can see a breakdown of how their sub is being viewed.

Wow, that's quite a bit lower than I expected. Interesting, thanks for sharing this!
Edited to add: I meant the number of people using the older interface is much lower than I expected
It's the new facebook crowd that reddit is trying to court that uses it.
I held onto the old interface for about a year. They made enough improvements to the new interface over time that I found it worked better for me after that.
I prefer the new interface, but I dislike the stuff they keep trying to add to it. Old Reddit feels too archaic for me personally. If they modernized the Old Reddit format and left it alone, that'd be the perfect compromise for me tbh.
You've answered your own question.
Yeah. Just disappointed Reddit is going full Mark Zuckerberg now.
I imagine the main purpose of the feature is to encourage use of the chat and messaging options.
discord gives you have the online status by default and no-one says anything about that...
Discord and Reddit are two completely different platsform with completely different purposes. If you're literally on a chat-platform, it's quite obvious you want to know when people are online or not.
Install grammerly
TRACKED...lol y'all are so dramatic I can't!
No, you can't. Do you want Reddit to die? They need money and your privacy hurts that.
Tbh, I kinda do. It's just been getting worse and worse and worse.
If they're not going to keep user's info private and keep the anonymity that was the original point of Reddit, then they absolutely should die.
