Honestly considering the stories from the production of Multiverse of Madness where Feige wanted to cut “corny” stuff that Raimi was doing, I kinda feel like they actually would never want someone like Scorsese making one. They’d think it was too indulgent because he wouldn’t be filming it like a CBS drama
No director with any power should do any Marvel thing. Just let the for hire people Disney has on hand to do it and follow all the studio notes. It's a studio built for Shakman and Russos who can manufacture content on the assembly line. It's a waste of time for a director who really wants to make and say something with their movies.
The Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four didn't have that MCU look.
That edict seems to have gone away.
They had a tinge more personality (and color) but I don’t think it was enough for me to say I have even a shred of an idea what a Matt Shakman or Jake Schreier movie is supposed to feel like on its own terms. It still felt very much to me like “slot a guy in who will direct another one of our TV episodes,” except in those two cases the TV episodes were a lot better than they had been the last three years.
I don’t even just mean visual style though, the studio feels like it is organized and run day-to-day in a way where a filmmaker like Scorsese would want to take a wrecking ball to the entire process
I don't have any skin in the game, but there was a lot of difference in the way FF and Thunderbolts were produced (at least as much as I, as a rando, know) and films like Ant-Man and Captain America.
Wasn’t that quote about one shot in the movie and kind of said in a joking manner? Not saying Feige lets people totally off the leash but I think people take that quote out of context.
Yeah I find it hard to believe Feige wouldn’t be able to hydraulic press a movie into generic nothingness if that’s what he truly wanted. More realistically, Feige’s known Raimi for over 20 years since the Spider-Man days, he knew exactly what he was getting into
MCU fans wanted an Andor-style show for the MCU but It'll never happen for this exact reason
