It's embarrassing to see shit like this coming from my country. Unfortunately, it's becoming far too common to just be openly and blatantly racist now.

This is what most of them are like in my area. There are loads of them.

People are under the impression the worst of MAGA are a bunch of old boomer bigots, but that's not the case. Those crusty old bastards have always been what they are, and most of them just chug through their day silently being pieces of shit in their own head.

It's the assholes like this - almost all of them young dudes - who are the worst of the movement. Young, aggressive, hateful for reasons they can't articulate, and feeling absolutely untouchable both because young people tend to anyway and because they've been emboldened by the whole movement.

This is a huge problem, too.

I still keep seeing people saying, "Can't wait until the Boomers die off," as if that will stop this cultural shift, but it absolutely WON'T.

It won't because there are an entire generation of assholes like this primed and ready to take their place.

And we're going to have to live with them for generations to come.

The younger male demographic is the most right wing in multiple generations.

Gen Z and Gen Alpha will be so far right the the CONS will be a centrist party

permalinkparentcontexthide replies (1)as-of
[–]blackphiIibuster48 points5 months ago

And by the far the nastiest about it in generations, too.

They're not merely just people having conservative ideals, lacking in empathy, and being against things that help others.

They are full on, "screw everyone else, we hope other people suffer, if you are different than us you deserve a bad life, we delight in making you miserable, it makes us happy to see people we don't like - which is everyone - having a bad time, ha ha ha, it makes us feel great when you feel bad."

It's never been a great time when conservatism has swung towards being culturally dominant - I'm old enough to have experienced it a couple of times already, including the height of 1980s Christian insanity - but I've never seen it this openly mean, hateful, bitter, and aggressive. The last time it was openly this bad was before I was born.

gawdang, I remember when a shizton of Canadian truckers drove down here to parade around Oakland, CA with their racism. They got their little parade of trucks protested, heckled, and egged into oblivion. They ran with their little wussy tails between their legs. It was kinda beautiful. Sometimes, I love my town.

well said. Is there a solution? Enforced military service? Social benefit ineligibility? Naming and shaming in the local newspaper?

permalinkparentcontexthide replies (2)author-focusas-ofpreserve
[–]GeoisGeo6 points5 months ago

Fixing societal inequality. We can't fix this type of cultural stupidity inbreeding, but you can make these types mind their fucking business again when they can work and own things like the previous generations so they can live up to the "man" they think they are supposed to be. That's really it.

permalinkparentcontextauthor-focusas-ofpreserve
[–]blackphiIibuster2 points5 months ago

I don't have an answer.

At least, not an answer that wouldn't require a book's worth of material, and even then, I'd probably be way off on a lot of it.

There was a time in my life when I thought education was the primary solution to many of society's ills and cultural issues. It was, I believed, the way to bridge divides; to improve outcomes; to produce better people, healthier people, smarter people.

But we now have a generation that has swallowed years and years of anti-education propaganda. Experts are bad. Science is bad. People with expertise are bad. Educational media is bad. Anyone more informed than you on a specific topic is bad. Being open-minded is bad. Learning about others is bad. Don't listen to anyone, don't trust anyone, teachers are all trying to twist your mind, and on and on and on and on.

You can't put that genie back in the bottle.

Even if we can reverse course, it's going to be decades before we see and feel the results. By then, who's to say what the world will look like?

I don't know what we can do. With the consolidation of power we're seeing, and the TechBros' increasing dominance over tech, media, social media, and so on, I'm not sure there is much we can do.

But I'm sounding too doom and gloom right now. I'd rather step aside and let people with ideas do the talking; people who still have a positive outlook and, more importantly, clear ideas on how to get there. Attitudes like the one I have right now are just getting in their way.

permalinkparentcontexthide replies (2)author-focusas-ofpreserve
[–]ChessFan19623 points5 months ago

Hope is always available, but you're not wrong to feel despair. That's -- and I'm sorry if this sounds stupid -- a sign that you are (1) invested and (2) confident that we all deserve better. And I choose to believe that is a good thing.

permalinkparentcontexthide replies (1)author-focusas-ofpreserve
[–]blackphiIibuster5 points5 months ago

Let them have everything their greed and hate will devour them, move back to the old agrarian ways of humanity, it is within all of us for we come from nature, in fact, we are all just old star dust! One thing I always recommend to youth these days is the life work of a very great teacher named Thich Nhat Hanh.

[–]Flashmemory2563 points5 months ago

The young MAGAs I think are actually far worse than the old boomers, for the reasons you listed. The old boomers cant really do much physically, the same way these young turds can. Of course the twigs in the video can't do much either.

permalinkparentcontextauthor-focusas-ofpreserve
[–]BojukaBob-7 points5 months ago

These assholes are Canadian, so they're not really MAGA.

permalinkparentcontexthide replies (1)author-focusas-ofpreserve
[–]blackphiIibuster11 points5 months ago

Despite what the acronym technically stands for, MAGA is no longer confined to the borders of the Unites States, as right-wing loons in Australia, Canada, Great Britain, and elsewhere will happily tell you. Many of them proudly consider themselves part of the MAGA movement, regardless of not being in the U.S.

permalinkparentcontexthide replies (1)author-focusas-ofpreserve
[–]BojukaBob6 points5 months ago

That hasn't been my experience as a Canadian. These guys existed before MAGA came along, with the Heritage Front and similar groups, and more recently the whole Freedom Convoy nonsense. It's manipulated by the same people as MAGA, and they're usually fans of Trump, but it feels like shifting the blame to the Americans not to acknowledge that we can homegrow the hate ourselves. Hell, right wing social media grifters have become a major Canadian export over the last decade lol

permalinkparentcontexthide replies (2)author-focusas-ofpreserve
[–]blackphiIibuster5 points5 months ago

I get where you're coming from, and tip of the hat to you for acknowledging that the same issues exist there as do here. That's certainly the case.

If my comment comes across as implying that MAGA is what sparked people like this outside the U.S., then I didn't express myself well. You're absolutely right, all of the places I named have their own home grown groups that have helped foment these attitudes. There are folks like this all over.

More accurate to say that they've embraced the MAGA movement as part of, or adjacent to, or in addition to, their own homegrown form of it.

When I say "MAGA" I'm speaking broadly about the overall cultural movement in these countries, but you're right to call that out and point out that it's not strictly true. The Venn Diagram is close to one big circle, sure, but you're also right that we each have out own form of it to contend with (in addition to folks in other countries as well).

permalinkparentcontextauthor-focusas-ofpreserve
[–]CoeurdAssassin2 points5 months ago

Hell, right wing social media grifters have become a major Canadian export over the last decade lol

Yea sometimes I sit there and wonder why some folks like Jordan Peterson and Steven Crowder are amongst powerful right wing talking heads in the U.S. when they’re freaking Canadian. Also I instantly thought of your point when I saw the Happy Dad logo on that dude’s hat. For those out of the loop, Happy Dad is an alcohol/seltzer brand started by the Nelk Boys. And the Nelk Boys are a former prank channel turned vlog and political grifting channel. Group used to be all Canadian but now it’s mostly American with some Canadians, including the head guy Kyle Forgeard. Kyle lives in the U.S. and absolutely grifts for MAGA and even recently stirred up controversy for interviewing Benjamin Netanyahu on a podcast.

permalinkparentcontextauthor-focusas-ofpreserve
[–]master-boofer1 point5 months ago

I know. I was proud to be an American not long ago. Now I'm constantly ashamed and terrified that the rest of the world may assume that I support this shit. If I were a European right now I would be looking down on any American not violently expressing their 2a rights. If shit kicks off I am hopping right in. I would rather fight and die than be complicit in any part of Project 2025's vision for this country. The only outcome I can imagine involves enormous amounts of pain and suffering for all of humanity.
