You are absolutely right. The numbers show that Trump didn't win 2016 because of record republican turn out; he won because Bernie Bros and complacent Democrats who stayed home.
wrong once again Hillary won by 3 million votes a greater margin that the one that put JFK into office..
That's true, though this fact and the statistics I cited are not mutually exclusive.
Given the truth of the numbers of voters, it's more accurate to say that voter suppression, Russian Meddling,
gerrymandering, and the broken electoral college won Trump the election. Not gerrymandering. I am a Canadian ignorant of that aspect of the American electoral process, apparently zones and districts aren't a thing for the presidential election?
In America it's the hip thing to not know the meaning of political terms but use them anyway.
Truth.
Except that gerrymandering affects only the House of Representatives and has absolutely nothing to do with presidential elections.
Fair enough, I am a Canadian who is used to gerrymandering affecting electoral outcomes of the Supreme Leader. It is the preferred strategy of the right both in the American House and Canadian Parliament.
Right. It's so great that the people who claim to own democracy and patriotism, and love naming their programs and policies after Freedom, Liberty and Patriotism, are also the most keen to cheat the system.
It was the electoral college. Everything else is an excuse. But the electoral college and district voting is tied to gerrymandering. Gerrymandering has as little to do with it as Russian meddling though.
Seriously, the whole Russian thing cracks me up. They don’t need to divide us nor make us dislike a corporate backed political insider like Clinton. If anything, they probably tried to tamp it down.
Now they are supporting Sanders on top of Trump. They just want instability in America, so being seen to support both sides will achieve that better.
Yea for sure. Curious how this plays out. When freakin Trump is the safe option to ensure continuity, you just know things are all types of broken.
I feel like if the Dems pick a centrist candidate again (which they are sure to do), political tensions will only continue to mount. Donnie will win a second (and maybe a third, and fourth...) term and the leftist elements of America will continue to be pushed further leftward by their active and worsening state of disenfranchisement.
I agree with everything you said here. I am worried about the same thing, and especially the slide into hereditary monarchy.
Got 3 million, didn't win. As evidenced by us having this discussion now.
It wasn't just that this happened but where it happened. Trump campaigned most heavily in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin - the four key states he and his organization knew would make the biggest electoral college difference - stirring up people there who were angry about feeling ignored. He spent much less money than Clinton's campaign did. It all happened just Michael Moore had predicted that summer.
lie. Bernie's folks voted for Hillary despite knowing it was wasted because yet another Corporate Whore would no inspire anyone.
And thus the point of the meme: The DNC is pulling the same shenanigans by smearing and sabotaging Bernie in favor of a lackluster centrist yet again, which is not what the progressives will vote for, and then they'll complain how the Bernie Bros lost the election for them. Perhaps they should read up on 2016 and consider NOT pulling the same shit that turned people off last time.
No idea. Probably just pro Bernie people trying to crush any perceived nay saying? Truth hurts I guess.
How many of those "Bernie Bros" were never going to vote Blue unless Bernie won? As the link you gave says, over half of the Sanders supporters who voted for Trump didn't even lean democratic.
Myself as an example, I was a Republican in 2016, until Bernie Sanders showed up. Because of Bernie, I moved away from the Right long enough to get a clear head on everything. But if Bernie wasn't there at all, I would have most likely voted for Trump by default.
You're acting like Trump won because Bernie stole Democratic votes from Clinton, when what actually happened was Bernie stole Republican voters from Trump and Clinton said she didn't need them. She could have signed Bernie as VP and probably won. Trump is even on leaked tapes saying he was worried she might do just that, but in her arrogance, she signed a nobody ex-DNC Chairman as her VP and campaigned like the election was already decided in her favor. Her loss was her fault and nobody else's.
