Restore AllHide UnarchivedAnd even when they have less than 40-50% of seats, the filibuster still gives them veto power.
Anyone with a majority in the Senate could remove the filibuster entirely, it's not an excuse.
Can you not see the danger inherent in this? Imagine the Republican Senate without the threat of a filibuster.
Taking away the filibuster sounds good when you have power and sounds awful when you don't.
The Senate is basically the only deliberative body in the world with the filibuster and unlimited debate by default. The fact that you have to have a supermajority to pass basically anything is absolute poison to our nation.
Republicans would have never gotten this bad if not for the filibuster. The executive would have never hoovered up so much power if not for the filibuster.
Anyone still defending the filibuster this day in age is just consigning us to oblivion. Because if the Democrats don't barge in and make huge changes when they retake control, pack it in, we've fucking lost.
As I said, this shows that you do not understand the situation. If you remove the filibuster for Democrats, you also move it when the Republicans take control.
I understand perfectly fine.
I understand that Republicans just use their control of SCOTUS to redefine law how they see fit and don't bother with passing pesky laws that might get filibustered. Tax cuts generally don't need to pass the filibuster.
It only harms the US.
I guarantee I can explain the filibuster in great detail and understand it far more than you do.
You don’t seem to understand the situation at all. If you give freedom to the Democrats to avoid the Phil of us, you also give that freedom to the Republicans. Democrats know this is to be avoided at all cost.
The filibuster doesn't save anything, anything that the Democrats "save" with the filibuster gets gutted in the courts or defunded in reconciliation by Republicans.
You can't seem to understand past step 1 of the process.
