Imagine for a hot second we managed to actually vote in President Sanders, Congress would've moved so fast to strip him of any and all powers short of photo-ops helping Kindergarteners tie their shoes.

And let's be absolutely clear, that would have happened with a congress controlled by either of the 2 parties. Can't risk upsetting the corporate overlords.

But they get inside information about stock moves, and become millionaires. Why rock the boat.

Don't blame this solely on Congress and Americans- there are 7 SCOTUS members who have a lot of splaining to do. Their latest is going to be the approval of tariffs, revolving around whether the broad, prolonged tariffs are justified under the law, which was intended for 'national emergencies'. The appeals court, by a divided 7-4 vote, determined the statute does not grant such sweeping power to impose global tariffs. The Supreme Court is being asked to quickly decide the matter, potentially impacting billions of dollars in tariff revenue and the future of President Trump's economic policies. The administration relied on the IEEPA, a 1977 law that grants the president authority to regulate imports during a 'declared national emergency' of which he has not been able to prove.

A federal appeals court in Washington struck down the majority of these tariffs, ruling that the IEEPA does not provide the power to impose such broad, global tariffs. Who's taking bets that SCOTUS will side with Trump without any proof of this national emergency, given the broad powers they continue to assert he has to say anything he feels like saying?

If democrats ever get back into power they need to expand the court. I've always been against this but after the current court decided the president can do whatever he wants without recrimination, we need more balance. We have a lawless administration who has fixed this court so that anything that doesn't benefit their party should be struck down and anything that does should be exalted and expanded. What a shit show.

TBF there are times when Democrats have controlled Congress and didn’t make any substantive changes either. Congress cares about getting reelected and not much else. If most of us did our jobs at the same level that Congress does we wouldn’t have them very long, yet we continue to elect the same people year after year.

Congress has also screwed itself over in the Senate by, imo, adding too many States to the union. Past the Mississippi, there should be at most ⅓ of the states that are currently there.

Im not a fan of republicans (at all) but this problem (lack of meaningful action by congress in benefit of the average American) is not just a republican problem. Our government has often held a Democrat majority off and on over the past couple/few decades, I haven't seen either party do much of anything useful. Id even go as far as saying that this country hasn't really been in a "good" (not great) place since the Clinton administration.

Go ahead and look at the landmark legislations that Democrat-controlled Congresses were able to actually pass. Look at the legislation that would have passed but for Republican filibuster. Now look at landmark legislation from Republican-controlled Congress.

Literally anyone can find this information out on Google, Wikipedia, a reputable news site, wherever. This “both sides,” “all government is corrupt and useless” narrative is manufactured, and one side benefits from it. It is also the preferred narrative of the Russian government in their disinformation campaigns. Don’t just agree with Reddit comments because they sound cynical and above the fray, do your own research.

Any “research” that points you to “Democrats are moral and productive while Republicans and useless and always evil” is a self-imposed delusion. Believing that politicians are moral or righteous is a dangerous delusion and can only stem from naïveté or ignorance.

It actually isnt and Im well aware of the problems that republicans bring to the table. But, as Im literally telling a staunch republican on another platform as we speak, I dont and wont entertain a dialog on the us/them paradigm. Finger pointing doesnt provide solutions and change and quite frankly, 2 parties have held power in this country for a long damn time and are solely responsible for this shit mess we find ourselves in. With all due respect, YOU are part of the problem because your loyalty is to party and the people that think and vote like you, not to your country as a whole. There is no us and them. We are all Americans and our country has always operated best when we could embrace our differences and work together cordially to give it our best shot at creating a country that can serve the American people best. Until people get over themselves, stop with their crusade of hate and blame, put on their big boy/girl pants and communicate like civilized adult human beings, we will just continue swirling the proverbial toilet bowl until theres nothing left of it. I suppose it wont matter much then, will it?

My loyalty is to my family and to America. When I look at what laws are passed and how the economy performs and how many jobs are created when a Democrat is in office, and compare it to what happens when a Republican is in office, it's a no brainer, for me, at least, to never support a republican. Democrats are far from perfect, and when you have 500+ people in one branch of a government you will always have disagreements. But again, from my lived experience, republican lawmakers, and especially republican voters, are an actual threat to my life and my livelihood. Yes, both parties have been in power and are complicit, but that's like saying men are complicit, or lawmakers with two legs are complicit. We only have two parties. If it's a binary choice, for me it's very easy.

I don't see much room for dialog when their guy is literally declaring war on American cities and most of them act like it's the coolest thing they've ever seen.

LOL the biggest power move you could make against Trump is to make him irrelevant. The man is a demon that thrives on negative attention, vitriol, chaos and hate. Instead of getting highjacked by the r vs d paradigm, think about solutions. Think about what makes the lives better for the average American. Think about the things that you directly have control of or things that you specifically can contribute. It doesnt have to be branded and sanctioned by a political think tank. In fact, its better if it isn't because it doesnt look like whatever they are doing is working. Simmering in this soup of division and hate isnt going to make things better.

That’s because we are being ran by children. They don’t really care about us. They pretend to fight but deep down all they want is what’s best for them. Definitely need term limits and they definitely need a pay cut. I saw a video that someone in congress should make the medium salary of the district they serve. That way if they want a raise, they have to increase the salary for the people they serve.

There's only been like 4 years out of the past 30 that the Dems owned both houses and presidency...?

Like once in 2021-2023 and then 2009-2011? Are those the times you're talking about?

Also, there was significant policy passed at both of those times, specifically a lot that was passed in response to those specific economic shifting turmoil events? Ya know...the big ones?

Like... what you even talking about guy? You're not even trying to be a little correct? Don't get me wrong, Democrats have plenty of criticism for their death grip on neoliberalism... But either go back to that, or let Trump let this country collapse so we can raise FDR from the dead, or transport his conscious into a paraplegic robot using AI to run for a 5th presidential term.

Are..are you assuming someone's gender right now? Isn't that like a cardinal sin in Democrat? 🫢

I think we both know that you dont have to hold all 3 branches to have influence on policy.

Having an opinion or world view different from yours is not confusion. Im not sure how being a capitalization Nazi is helpful. It seems everyone else (regardless of whether they agree with me or not) was able to understand what I was communicating here, even without proper capitalization. Seems to me that you are looking for something to nit pick which is essentially a you problem. Its okay for people to disagree on things.
