You shouldn’t put an alpha on steam if you don’t want criticism, thousands of games are released on early access every day and they are reviewed in the state they are sold. Why should this particular game be any different?
You paid $50 for the game as it currently is, you get the rights to review the game as it currently is
You put a game for sale on the marketplace for games, people will review it as game, not as a "testing access to the alpha build of the game".
Should they, should they not? Maybe, maybe not.
On Steam the reviews are just "Do you recommend this game?". And in its current state I can't think a single point that would make me recommend the game to someone else. Maybe the "node" system is something the game has going for itself, but I have no idea what it is, what it does, or to what extent it is implemented.
Entitled..
entitled /ɪnˈtʌɪtld/ adjective believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.
Sure you can say something, but entitled...
do u think that definition helps ur argument lmao?
yes, a person who purchased a product is “inherently deserving” of the ability to criticize that product
“entitled” is the correct word
just read about it and indeed entitled is in the same category as complain (sorry not a native speaker) thought it ment something superior. my bad 😞

No dipshit, words have more than one meaning.
By law, as in the Consumer review Fairness act of 2016.
People who expect anything from an alpha build (which is even before a beta build) they are beyond stupid. Of course it's a "lousy product", it's not finished yet. It's not even halfway there.
It's like buying a house that is still being built and then complain that there are no windows and electricity.
"Hey, you can buy this UNFINISHED product that is still in a very broken state. Expect nothing." and then claiming you're entitled to complain? Give me a break.
Yeah but also, Alpha builds should never be put out on steam with a 50$ price tag AND a cash shop.
Regardless, that is in their right to do. I don't agree with it either.
But I'm fucking laughing my ass off to people who paid for it and are complaining. Not required for the release, not forced to pay it in any way. And still complaining.
Regardless, that is in their right to do. They have every right to leave their review after being sold a product.
See how that works?
They are being sold keys/access to a game that is in development.
That's like paying to see the construction of a theme park but complain you didn't get to ride 90% of the rides.
Well in that example, the theme park would never have opened up before they were done and charged money for it on a platform that allows reviews. If it did, it would also get plenty of valid criticism.
So then why charge money for it? It’s the fact that you aren’t getting your moneys worth you idiot, launching a game in early access with a cash shop that works will open your game to criticism whether it’s warranted or not (and for this launch, it is).
Why pay for it then? It's not required to play the game once it releases.
Will your life be incomplete if you didn't play this alpha build? You can't be irresponsible with your money and blame the seller.
> Why pay for it then?
Why sell it then?
Just because something is for sale, doesn't mean your forced to buy it.
If there is a piece of frozen poop for sale, will you buy it? From the sounds of it you will buy it, complain about it and then "BuT wHy PuT iT FoR SaLe?"
You people are beyond dense. It's almost sad.
You didnt answer his question though, mr. Deflector. They put it on sale as a product so they can make money. That means reviews are open.
Just because something is on sale doesnt mean Im forced to buy it. Just because it was an optional purchase (most things in life are) doesnt mean its above criticizing. If you sell a product, its open field. Thats it. It doesnt matter how much warning or signposting you've done that its not finished, it was your choice to sell unfinished products.
I did answer it: "Just because something is for sale, doesn't mean your forced to buy it." So, why sell access to the early build? Because they can. If you're dumb enough to pay for an CLEARLY unfinished product, that's on you.
And who is giving them that money? People can choose to not give them money, you know? No one is forced.
And? Is this the final product? Are you gonna review a pasta when it's still raw? Are you gonna review and ice cream when it's not frozen yet? Are you gonna give your opinion on a house that isn't built yet?
And? Just because a car dealer has a Lamborghini Urus for sale, doesn't mean I should buy it? What is this logic of trying to put the blame on the seller.
If a snake oil salesman sells you snake oil, then you are the fucking idiot that bought it. Don't put your own accountability with the seller, are you mentally 15? Do you have low impulse control that you buy every dumb thing you see and blame the seller for making you waste money?
Do you shop a lot on Temu? Sounds like you do.
How many more fucking disclaimes do you dumbo's need? On steam:
"Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development."
Lol if you put something for sale you open it up to reviews. It doesnt matter the state its in. They didnt have to release a game in alpha. They didnt have to charge a full titles price for it. They didn't have to spend so much money to achieve so little.
They didnt have to do any of those things. But they did. Just like people dont have to buy the alpha. But they did.
Defending the snake oil salesman shows how fucking slimy you are too. Gross.
this is frozen poop marketed as a dubai chocolate, so yes obviously some people fall for it and buy
Your entire argument boils down to deflection because you know that it shouldn’t be sold. No matter how you spin it, this shit shouldn’t cost money and people would be way more lenient on it if Steven wasn’t trying to do the most obvious cash grab.
Because it's not a charity.
YOU are choosing to buy a product in alpha. You are the fool to expect a polished game from an alpha. You have nothing but your dumb choice to blame
If it's not even half way there you shouldn't be selling it. Buying 3 copies of valheim is better value. Hell it's better value when the game launched vs the state it's in now.
It's like buying a house being built in 2017, which is quoted to release in 2019. Then you finally move in in December 2025 and being upset that there's no walls or stairs or carpet.
Thinking an MMO would release in two years is beyond naive. This really is a non-argument.
Knowing it's not finished yet*
Be responsible with your own money. Intrepid never claimed to need money (take their word for it for the sake of the argument) so don't give them money. If you decide to pay for something, knowing fully there is a chance to be dissapointed, that's the risk YOU take.
They actively advertised it to release in 2019. I was there and so were many people in this sub.
It seems you're new here, but you'll wisen up eventually.
I'll say it again: Thinking an MMO would release in two years is beyond naive.
Don't complain the snake oil salesman sold you snake oil. Complain that YOU are the one who was stupid enough to buy it.
One comment ago you said "take their word for it"... And now you're against believing them at their word.
Interesting how quickly you are to change stances to support your viewpoint.
Uhhh...
Are we not supposed to go "hey guys that guy over there is a snake oil salesman dont buy from him".
You are literally defending the person scamming others in this example Holy fucking shit this is spot on.
You keep harping like the general population is following ashes and its journey and know the current state of the game. Even if people "buy it" with big font letters that say "work in progress, game not complete", people are still entitled to buy and try to deduce if they deem the money they spent was worth what is available to try.
If not just so every other people realize that didnt before as well based on the reviews - so they also realize that the game is not worth the $50 that it is currently available for and only for people to purchase if they believe in the project and its vision.
I dont know why people are so mad that the reviews are based on the "game being incomplete", it would be so much worse if the reviews were that the game is dogshit fundamentally.
Sure they are, but they still don't like the game.
And putting your work up for wide scale review in a state that most stupid people wont like seems kinda like a skill issue.
They charge the price of a full game for a product thats not even pre-alpha quality. Its not even half-finished. And thats after 9 YEARS of development. Look at what you are supposed to get for 50 dollars in the gaming industry. They deserve all the negative reviews they get, cant defend it unless you are delusional.
The entire point of releasing an alpha game is for people to complain so they can fix the stuff that people complain about smh
Why is there a cash shop on this "alpha build"? Why do i have to pay 50$ to playtest an "Alpha build" WITH a CASH SHOP.
If they are going to charge 50$ you're goddamn right I'm going to write a review on how i feel about the current state of the game.
The great thing about reviews is that you can CHANGE them when the game is FINISHED. So yeah I'm going to give it a bad review until they can fix or finish the game, otherwise it'll be negative until the end of time. Bite me.
Do you hold company leadership to that standard? The most obviously predictable, brand-harming, potentially brand-killing thing happened. Is Stephen also "beyond stupid" for this?
It's extremely small-picture thinking to spend time on whether someone is or is not entitled to feel a certain way about what they got for their money. Big picture it's simply a terrible strategic decision to go live on Steam in this state given the obvious consumer reaction--unless you are so desperate for cash that even a modest infusion is worth more to you than the bigger picture negative impact. Consider the ramifications of that. Either they made a galactically stupid decision that everyone saw coming...or they just wanted more cash up front and weren't concerned with anything else.
