NTA Safety first. She needs to know what DeGloving is and why a "Brain Bucket" is called that (half helmets don't do anything but keep your Brain inside them they don't protect anything.)
She does understand there are things WAY WORSE than death. Right?
100% this. People really underestimate how brutal it is to crash, even at 30mph. It’s not about being overprotective—it’s about not having to peel your skin off the road or live with a shattered pelvis. I respect that the OP isn’t caving to the “it looks cool” pressure. Gear up or stay off.
My cousin had a shattered pelvis, I remember him sitting in a lazy boy just going "ow. ow. ow." when he got home from the hospital
I was at Fort Campbell for a while and it was interesting being in the TN/KY state line TN had helmet laws and Kentucky didn't. There were A LOT of discussions and angry lectures and graphic slideshows and threats to charge privates with Destructive of Government Property for hurting themselves because Uncle Sam OWNS YOUR A$$
I'm sorry I don't care how fashionable you are not wearing safety hear makes you and an idiot. Which ruins any coolness you have going for you.
Oh man, my husband shattered his pelvis and broke ten ribs. And that was with full gear on. Not a good time at all.
Explain to her that back in the 70's (pre-airbags), emergency rooms LOVED motorcycle accidents. It was their number one source for organ transplants.
Instead of the bodies being impacted on the steering wheel, dashboard, or windshield - they were thrown free.
NTA
(boomer rider here)
Older millennial here, and I still remember motorcycles being called "donor cycles."
Has that changed? I assumed it was still true.
I still hear it a lot. Mostly about people not wearing gear
The term I heard thrown around was Organ Donor Machine.
The body can be a worse prison than the grave.
